Well this morning has proven what I have known all along, and now all of you will know too. I am FAR from a perfect mother. As hard as I try to keep Karson out of harm's way, as my cute little almost 9 month old is now basically trying to walk and grabs onto anything he can to pull himself up to stand. He woke up at 5:00 this morning, we fed him 6 ounces and he fell back asleep until about 6:30, he was then up with us the rest of the morning, while we were trying to get ready for work, so he was in the bathroom playing on the floor.
I was running extremely late and the whole time I had been straightening my hair, I left the cord up in the sink, I was done and unplugged the straightner letting the cord fall to the floor for maybe 3 seconds, Karson now sees the cord on the ground, crawls over and yanks on it,I try to stop it from falling into his lap ( luckily his legs were covered with jammies) and he maybe touched it for one second.
However in that one second, he starts screaming, because I think I scared the crap out of him, because I yelled and hurried and picked him up. I had to set him on the bedroom floor for a second and tears are streaming down his bright red face. I felt so helpless, because I couldn't see anywhere on his hand, where he may have touched the straightner. Well he calms down and becomes happy again, standing in his crib while I pack his diaper bag. I drop him off at Ty's moms house and I am telling her what happened, and she points out that he does have a big blister on the right side of his thumb. I was trying so hard not to cry, because I just felt so horrible. He was acting fine and happy so I know it isn't a BAD like 3rd degree burn or something, which is GOOD, because if it was, I don't think I could function from the guilt.
Any way I still feel HORRIBLE about it, because I MADE SURE the cord wasn't on the floor, then for the 3 seconds it was, this happens. Ugh! I just hope he is ok, I feel like such a bad mom. I mean every day from crawling he runs into things or does something silly and I try as hard as I can to prevent all of those bumps and scrapes. I caled Ty and cried about it on the phone, I got to work and cried while I was telling my sister, and now I am crying telling all of you! What a great way to start a Friday morning!
Guess I just had to write it down to try and lessen my guilt, but now you all know! I am SO FAR from perfect it is not even funny! Sorry to disappoint....

BreeAnn, these things seriously happen! It was an accident. You don't even want to know the things that happened to us! You are such a good mom! Karson will never hate you for that or hold it against you.
BreeAnn, you're a fantastic mom! Karson is one of the cutest happiest boys I have ever seen and i just love him! He won't even remember this, and when you go to pick him up, he will be so excited to see you! I'll tell you a secret...I burned the top of KayCee's ear once when I was curling her hair, I think I cried harder than she did! It happens to the best of us. Know that I love ya!!!
BreeAnn, don't be so hard on yourself. Things like this happen--especially to curious little boys. Isaac used to pull himself up on things all the time, fall and hit his head on things and pinch his little fingers. It is just part of being a baby. I don't believe that anyone would feel that you are a bad mom, and accidents do happen. When Isaac had just turned 1 David was giving him a bath. Isaac pulled himself up so he was standing in the tub and David continued to clean him. Isaac slipped and hit his eyebrow on the rounded edge of the tub and split it open. He needed stitches and everything. David knew better than to let him stand in the tub, but for a few seconds he did and Isaac got hurt. David was heartbroken. Take a deep breath and know that you do everything you can to keep your kids safe, but accidents are bound to happen. Love you!
That's hard.
You can never keep them 100% protected. It's always those split second unawarenesses that these little kids take advantage of.
I'm sure Karson's fine and you'll feel better as time goes on.
And I don't blame you for feeling the way you do either.
Just the joys of motherhood.
I agree with everything the others have said. Things happen. The bad moms don't feel bad.... they would laugh or something.
Accidents happen! It doesn't matter how watchful you are, something always happens. And it doesn't make you a bad mom. How else are they supposed to learn? Seriously. Anyway, my kids both have had broken bones by the age of one. The first made me feel horrible, the second, I've just been waiting for. Nolan is an accident waiting to happen. Again and again. The first time's always the hardest.
Oh man, there are many more boo-boos to come. Kohen's had the straight iron conk him on the head and gave him a little burn too, not to mention the black eye, rolling off the bed, and the time he found the onion chopper when Trav and I both thought each other was watching him :( It breaks your heart when they get hurt. You try to watch them but once they start to walk the safe life is over. All hell breaks loose! I always cry harder than he does when he gets hurt then he just start laughing at me. Accidents happen no matter how hard you try to protect the little monsters!
